Right from handling the design to regular Golf course maintenance equipment, everything comes under the umbrella of these tasks. These responsibilities can be as detailed as one might think.


The role of the superintendent in budgeting


Budgeting cannot be avoided for any golf course to be successful in the long term. If there is no budgeting, the golf course can only depend on coincidence. Planning in advance on how much to spend in each area in the year is a professional decision. The superintendent is expected to be proficient in making these critical decisions. Controlling the performance of the golf course


The standard performance is always set in the beginning. Once the year is complete, actual performance is measured and compared with the standards set in the beginning. Then comes the comparison. There are qualitative and quantitative techniques to manage the inventory of a golf course. Anything in excess or shortage should be noted down by the superintendent immediately, and then the required material should be ordered. For example, observing if the golf course equipment needs repair or replacement is the duty of the superintendent. This is where the experience and technical knowledge comes into play.

The superintendent is responsible for assigning salaries and wages to the workforce. Anything in excess and shortage should be again noted very carefully according to the delegated tasks. Every technical knowledge including departmental payroll summary, the leaderboard, the yearly analysis etc. should be considered before assigning the next departmental payroll cost. As every golf course is run by its employees, daily motivation and communication by the superintendent to his subordinates is very essential. No one can work without a regular push towards the organizational goal. The superintendent must motivate his subordinates every level in the golf course.
